On the evening of August 21, the Chinese Football Association officially issued a disciplinary announcement, reprimanding the Shanghai赛区 (Shanghai Shenhua Football Club's home stadium). The punishment stems from an incident following the Chinese Super League Round 18 make-up match on August 18, where three Shenhua fans verbally abused the father of a young fan wearing an opposing team's jersey, causing severe negative social impact.

Incident Details and Police Action

On August 18, Shanghai Shenhua lost 0-3 at home to Beijing Guoan. After the match, as crowds were dispersing near the stadium's escalator No. 2, three spectators-Hua (36), Jin (41), and Yin (51)-saw a young boy wearing a non-Shenhua player's kit. To vent their emotions, the three men proceeded to verbally abuse and berate the boy's father. The Shanghai Public Security Bureau's Xuhui Branch confirmed in a statement on August 19 that the three individuals had been administratively detained for provoking trouble.

Official Sanctions and Club Response

The CFA's announcement on the 21st stated it would resolutely deal with all violations in accordance with disciplinary regulations to purify the league's environment. The announcement called on all parties to jointly maintain match order and the hard-won football development atmosphere. In response to the sanction, Shanghai Shenhua Club stated that same evening that it accepted the CFA's decision.

Concurrently, Beijing Guoan Club also received a penalty from the CFA for this match, as some of their away fans wore clothing printed with uncivilized text. Guoan was issued a reprimand, fined 50,000 RMB, and will have their away fan seating allocation reduced by 10% for each of their next two away matches.

Public Reaction and Media Commentary

The incident sparked widespread public discussion. Media commentary pointed out that children should not become casualties of fan culture, and that a mature football culture should accommodate different colors. The commentary emphasized that football rivalry should end with the final whistle, and that true support competes through a team's sporting prowess, not by harassing ordinary families off the pitch.

Regarding the club's acceptance of the punishment, some Shenhua fans and netizens expressed differing views. The club is now focusing on its upcoming fixtures. The outcome of this incident serves as a warning for all CSL venues to uphold spectator order.
